Schultz to Become UFA

Justin Schultz, the 21 year old defence-man drafted by the Anaheim Ducks in 2008, will not be signing with the Ducks. He played at Wisconsin University for 3 seasons, but deregistered this spring, making him a UFA according to the CBA rules.

Bob Murray, General Manager of the Ducks, said that the team will try to persuade Schultz and "hope his character prevails" in the end. Schultz is appearing to be very selfish, and many players are reportedly not happy with this and don't want a player like him in the locker room. He will be a rookie Dman next year, and will obviously expect himself in the lineup, but needs to prove his worth.

Many speculate that Schultz will go to the Leafs, Red Wings, Canucks, or possibly Wild, but Schultz says he will talk with every team. The maximum contract he can sign is $925 000 per season for two years, but  with added bonuses his cap hit will be around $3 000 000. Schultz will surely make the most in bonuses allowed by the CBA, but ultimately he will choose the team he feels most comfortable with. The Ducks may look to file tampering charges after he signs.
